Lusophone area: frozen meat for Portugal and Africa
APM Traders supplies Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa: Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe. We serve every customer in Portuguese and adapt each shipment to the cuisine of their country.
Portugal
A market very close to Spain’s, which we serve with full truckloads or mixed pallets.
- Suckling pig (leitão): for leitão à Bairrada, the country’s most famous roast suckling pig.
- Pork belly (entremeada), hock (chispe), ears and trotters: the basis of cozido à portuguesa and feijoada.
- Pork loin and boneless loin steaks: for bifanas and grilled febras.
- Diced pork: for carne de porco à alentejana and rojões.
- Iberian pork cuts: lágrimas, presa and secreto for fine dining.
Angola
- Picanha, maminha and alcatra: the star beef cuts of Angolan churrasco.
- Whole and cut-up chicken: for muamba de galinha, chicken stewed in palm sauce.
Mozambique, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe
- Chicken and leg quarters: for frango à zambeziana and Mozambique’s piri-piri chicken.
- Pork belly, ribs and hock: for cachupa, Cape Verde’s national dish, stewed with corn and beans.
- Diced beef: for stews and São Tomé’s calulu.
In Portugal, demand rises in June with the Santos Populares, the street festivals of bifanas and grilling, throughout the summer with churrasco, and at Christmas, with kid goat and suckling pig. In Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and São Tomé, the big peak is Christmas and New Year: we plan each shipment around sea transit times so that it arrives on time.
Our pork comes from our own plant, Jarota Carnes, and we control the origin, quality and traceability of every shipment. We export to Africa in full or mixed refrigerated containers, with the health documentation and certificates each country requires. Every item comes with its technical data sheet, and we offer halal certified products for customers who need them.
